Who doesn’t want to be happy?
Very well mind recently released an article that described happiness, stating ’Happiness is something that people seek to find, yet what defines happiness can vary from one person to the next. Typically, happiness is an emotional state characterised by feelings of joy, satisfaction, contentment, and fulfilment. While happiness has many different definitions, it is often described as involving positive emotions and life satisfaction.’
Happiness is also one’s own responsibility. If we seek happiness simply from external factors, it doesn’t sustain for long. Rather, one ought to work in such a way that happiness and joy sustains from within.
Easier said than done! Finding happiness isn’t easy and one needs to constantly work on it. Staying happy is necessary because mind and body wellness are linked to one’s state of mindas well. It’s why happy people recover from ailments sooner.

Here are some aspects that contribute to happiness:
1. The Attitude Of Gratitude - Right from saying thank you to someone for the smallest gesture, to being grateful for the things one has in life, the regular act of showing gratitude increases feelings of happiness. One is also able to develop feelings of empathy and compassion, which result in a better frame of mind.
2. Positive Relationships - Humans need fellow humans to live life fully, regardless of whether they like fraternising with others. Creating healthy relationships with family, friends, colleagues and community is extremely important to your overall well-being. Social connections provide a support system and sense of belonging, which significantly impact our overall satisfaction levels.

3. A Sense Of Purpose - A mission or purpose in life is crucial. Goals and activities that align with your values and passions will drive you to achieve them.
4. Resilience - This character trait is often tested, and emerges during the most trying times of one’s life. Resilience helps you focus on you’re your strengths and the positive aspects of your life, when things are otherwise adverse.
5. Mindfulness - Being present in the moment is an important practice that helps us to savour life with absolute calmness and a sense of joy. Mindfulness also keeps mental stress at bay and betters overall well-being. Practices such as deep breathing and meditation relax the nerves and muscles of the mind and body.

6. Physical Health - Regular exercise and adequate sleep also adds to one’s positive state of mind. Maintaining your physical health releases endorphins and tremendously boosts happiness. Every time you work out, you actually feel lighter, refreshed and recharged.
7. Positive Self-Image - Developing self-esteem and a positive self-image is one of the secrets towards becoming happier. Practice self-love and avoid being too self-critical of yourself.
While all the above factors can determine happiness, you have to first decide to be happy. Only then things will begin to change. It’s all in the mind and mindset!
