A mother had filed a case of domestic violence against her daughter, the hearing for which was underway at Mumbai High Court recently. The lawyer, Kenny Thakkar, representing the daughter argued that his client wants to pursue higher studies in Australia and thus wants cancel the case under Domestic Violence Act.
He also argued that there is no evidence against his client. The mother’s lawyer opposed this stance, and proceeded to slut-shame the woman saying that she has many boyfriends. To this Justice Manish Pitale (a member of the Bench) said that this line of argument is uncalled for and personal to the petitioner. He told the lawyer, “What is this argument? It is her (petitioner) life… what is this argument that she has many boyfriends? Argue on law point.”
The court said that the mother should be happy as the petitioner is keen to leave the country for higher studies. It shall pronounce its judgment on April 19.
