In this powerful interview, Richa Maheshwari, Founder and Creative Head of Boito, takes us into the heart of her brand, one that sits beautifully at the intersection of fashion, art, and craft revival.
Richa describes Boito as a conscientious label rooted in collaboration and community. From the intricate Khandua silks and Sambalpuri ikats of Odisha, every Boito piece carries the soul of the artisan who made it. What sets the brand apart, she explains, is its deep, on-the-ground engagement with artisans, sitting beside them, understanding what they take pride in, and co-creating designs that reflect their identity and skill.
Sustainability, for Boito, isn’t just a buzzword, it’s built into every process. Every fabric is handwoven, every dye is natural, and not a single power loom is used. Through collaborations with clusters such as Dongria Kondh, Kotpad, Kerang, Bomkai, Dokra, and Habaspuri, Boito is actively reviving endangered crafts and techniques that are on the verge of extinction.
Richa shares one such revival story from Habaspur, where only four looms remain out of the 120 that once thrived. By reimagining traditional motifs- like magnifying a tiny fish motif into a nine-inch statement piece- Boito not only renewed interest in the weave but also inspired artisans to take pride in their heritage again.
Through Boito, Richa is weaving stories of pride, purpose, and possibility.
