In a space where inclusive education is still evolving, Kavitha George is building Communicare Education as a structured, personalised, and deeply empathetic model of support for children with disabilities and their families. In this conversation for Her Circle Bizruptors, she reflects on how her personal journey shaped not just her purpose, but the way Communicare functions today.
George’s path changed when her daughter Amaya was diagnosed with Cockayne Syndrome, a rare genetic disorder. What followed was over a decade of navigating doctors, therapists, and interventions, often without clarity or consistency. Through this process, she saw firsthand how fragmented support systems could be, with limited coordination, unclear goals, and very little empathy for families trying to make sense of it all.
Communicare Education was created in response to these gaps. At its core, it is a school for children with special needs that focuses on personalised learning and therapy, designed to adapt to each child rather than expecting the child to fit into a fixed system. The approach brings education and therapy into a single, continuous framework, instead of treating them as separate tracks.
What sets Communicare apart is this integration. Therapeutic practices such as music, dance, art, aquatic, somatic, and play-based therapy are not add-ons, but built into everyday learning. This allows children to engage in ways that are natural to them, making development more consistent and less fragmented.
The model is also built around individualised learning plans that evolve with the child. Each programme is shaped by ongoing assessment, focusing not just on academic progress but on communication, independence, and life skills. This ensures that progress is both measurable and meaningful.
Another defining aspect is the emphasis on early diagnosis and intervention, combined with a structured, research-informed approach. Communicare also uses technology-enabled personalised learning methods to better track development and tailor support, helping bridge the gap between intention and actual outcomes.
Equally important is the role of families within this ecosystem. At Communicare, parents are active participants, not observers. Regular communication, workshops, and support systems ensure that families are equipped to continue the process beyond the classroom, creating consistency in a child’s development.
The organisation also works towards building a wider support network through community engagement and partnerships, aiming to create more awareness and acceptance of special needs while expanding opportunities for children.
Today, Communicare reflects an approach shaped by lived experience, one that prioritises continuity, accountability, and empathy. It is an effort to move away from fragmented systems towards a model that responds more closely to what children and their families actually need.
