In the latest Her Circle Bizruptors feature, Harshita Motaparthi, the co-founder of activewear brand Mile Collective tell us how the brand began with a simple problem: why does India not have a good activewear brand of its own?
That question became an athleisure brand built around the idea that there should no compromises on fit, performance, style or quality when it comes to activewear. While most brands use a single fabric across their entire range, Mile Collective works with six to seven different fabrics across just ten SKUs. Finding the right material for each product rather than the easiest solution for the supply chain was their aim.
The fabrics are nylon-spandex blends chosen for stretch, durability and skin-friendliness. The co-founder explains how the fabrics are free of harsh chemical dyes, BPA-free and PFAS-free, designed to work through Indian summers and year-round humidity. For athleisure, the brand turns to cotton blends, keeping the same performance standard without compromising on comfort.
But beyond the product, what the brand keeps coming back to is the customer. Feedback, whether good or bad, is taken seriously, and the brand's tone across every touchpoint, from its website to its Instagram captions, is deliberately simple. "It feels like you're just talking to a friend," says Harshita.
