A pioneering social welfare and recruitment initiative aimed at integrating the transgender population into public service has been unveiled by Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy in a historic move. This initiative aims to empower the transgender community by providing them with jobs in traffic control around Hyderabad. It is the first of its kind in India and the world.

CM Revanth Reddy suggested enlisting transgender volunteers to help control traffic inside the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) boundaries during a review meeting centred on the city’s growth and upkeep. Home Guards now support the traffic police, and this new program will give the transgender community access to the same opportunities.
In order to prepare volunteers for the position, the CM recommended giving them a stipend and specialised training. They will also receive uniforms, which will further integrate them into the official traffic management system of the city.

39 transgender individuals have been hired as traffic assistants in Hyderabad, who will formally start working. This forward-thinking move seeks to improve inclusivity in public services and incorporate the transgender community into mainstream professions. The traffic assistants will be stationed at several intersections throughout the city to help with traffic management, road safety, and vehicle circulation. Their entry into the workforce represents a critical turning point in the advancement of equality and the opening of doors for under-represented groups.

The initiative has garnered a lot of positive feedback, with activists and citizens praising the Hyderabad Police for making a daring move in the direction of inclusivity. The transgender traffic assistants have had extensive training to prepare them for their positions, and it is anticipated that their participation will improve city traffic control. It highlights the city's forward-thinking stance on diversity and equality, opening the door for marginalised communities to be more accepted and integrated.
This forward-thinking initiative showcases creative governance by tackling employment and inclusivity for under-represented groups. With its well-considered solutions, Hyderabad, which already has fewer traffic problems than other large Indian cities, keeps setting the standard.
