Ah skincare—every girl’s way of retaining that healthy, youthful glow. You have the right products, you know what to do, and there’s no denying that you’re doing all that you’re supposed to. Or are you? We’re sure you’ve heard the saying, ‘your skin reflects how healthy you are’, so if there’s an unexplained zit, your skin is looking dull and lifeless, or you just cannot explain the texture, there’s something that you’re missing.
Fortunately, we have some tell-tale signs that there are certain bad habits, complete no-nos you’re doing that’s preventing you from being your flawless self. They are:
You Wash Your Face Too Much
Yes, we understand that we’re in the middle of a pandemic, and you’re meant to wash your hands every hour or so. There’s also a good chance that your unwashed hands may just be touching your face. But does that mean you wash your face just as often? While cleansing your skin is a non-negotiable part of any healthy skincare routine, washing your skin more than twice per day can strip it of its natural oils, making it vulnerable to pollutants in the environment. The same applies to over-exfoliating.
You Skip SPF When You Step Out
No matter which part of the world you’re in, sun damage doesn’t single anyone out. Besides, we’re all prone to sun damage all year round. If you’re repeatedly exposed to UV rays without adequate protection, you are susceptible to premature ageing and even some skin cancers. It’s advisable to apply a broad-spectrum SPF 30 or higher every time you step out.
You Neglect Your Neck and Chest
While we don’t doubt that you’re taking proper care of your face, if you neglect your neck and chest, they’re prone to premature ageing as the skin in these areas are thinner and delicate. Moreover, they’re also the areas many of us tend to forget about, especially if we’re in a hurry to get done with our routines. This is why, when you’re applying moisturiser, SPF, or even cleansing, be sure to pay attention to your neck and upper chest, too.
You Go to Bed With Your Makeup On
Perhaps a cardinal sin when it comes to skincare, going to bed with your makeup on is perhaps the biggest reason behind those pesky pimples, and acne. Since the surface or our skin is exposed to makeup, dirt, pollution, oil, and much more throughout the day, these can that build up on the surface, causing irritation, clogged pores, breakouts and dull-looking skin. No matter how tired, make sure you keep some wet wipes on your night stand, and thoroughly wipe away the remains of the day from the surface of your face and neck. You will be thankful for not skipping this step.
You Change Your Routine Too Often
Yes, we get it: we all want to try that new moisturiser or serum that’s being featured in the Sephora newsletter. Besides, nobody wants to stick to the same old formulas all year round. And while it’s perfectly normal to experiment to see what works best, don’t change things up if something works. The only time you should consider changing up your routine and products is as the seasons change. Your skin’s needs will differ in different climes, so if you have a solid skin routine, make sure the adjustments you make are switching up moisturisers that are meant for that time of the year.
