5 Ways To Spend More Time With Your Mom

5 Ways To Spend More Time With Your Mom

The thing with moms is that they are the most taken-for-granted people in the world. Irrespective of how much we love our moms and the fact that most of us would do anything for them, when it comes to making time for these amazing beings in our lives, we rarely ever do.

We get busy in our lives, we are studying, working, building hobbies, experiencing personal growth, trying to find financial stability, etc. Adulting is not easy; there is no perfecting it. Stressors are everywhere and with whatever mental bandwidth we have left, we want to unwind with our partners or friends—basically, people from our age group with shared interests.

Amidst all this, our moms often get taken for granted. They may complain that we don’t spend enough time with them, but continue to love us unconditionally. How do we make sure to spend more time with our moms? Here’s what you can do.

1) Schedule your mother-daughter dates

We love spontaneous plans but when you’re adulting, sometimes, making one can be difficult. In fact, with friends always wanting to do something or the other, your mother can feel left out. Schedule a quality date with your mother, at least once a month. Go for an activity you both love, like a brunch date, or take her to the spa or the movies—do anything that makes both of you connect better.

2) Join a class together

Do you ever feel that your mom has invested so much in her family, that she barely got time to do something interesting for herself? Sign her up for a fun class together, be it baking, dancing, yoga or learning a new language or skill. That way, you both will learn something new, and even end up spending regular time together. If geographical location is a problem, you can even take up an online class! Just having that shared experience will help you bond more.

3) Prioritise her when you can

You know sometimes your friend is asking you to meet on a Saturday, and then your mom asks if you want to do something. In that situation—not always—but whenever you can, prioritise your mother, especially if she has a limited social circle. If she wants to catch a movie or go out, take her. Sometimes, you just have to drop other things and say, ‘Hey, I have already made plans with mom!’

4) Host a party together

If you and your mom love being the host, why not bring together the people you love under the same roof? It doesn’t always have to be a one-on-one date with your mom. Host a party with her. Invite your relatives, family friends, her friends and your closest friends. Why shouldn’t moms have some fun?

5) Have meaningful conversations

There may be some things that you don’t feel comfortable talking about with your mom. But have meaningful conversations, when you’re spending time with her. Ask her about her day, her life in the past, what she likes, dislikes. Tell her about what’s happening in yours. Exchange views on life and you will realise she is just another woman like you.
