Tokyo Olympics 2020: Highlighting India’s Achievements So Far

With the COVID-19 pandemic putting a damper on the festivities, after much anticipation, the opening ceremony of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics made headlines for the splendour and fanfare, kick-starting this much-awaited international sporting event.

Day 1 began on a high note, with India making waves, bringing home accolades. Mirabai Chanu stole the show on July 24, as she brought home a silver in the women's weightlifting 49kg category.

If that’s not all, Manika Batra made history by becoming the first Indian woman to win the Table Tennis Women’s Single at the Olympics, beating out Britain’s Tin-Tin Ho to 4 - 0. Sutirtha Mukherjee followed in Batra’s footsteps, bagging her own win in the game as well.

There’s yet another triumph for India as shuttler PV Sindhu won her opening match against Israel’s Ksenia Polikarpova.
