Ukraine Airline Swaps High Heels And Skirts For Sneakers And Comfortable Pants

Low-cost Ukrainian Arline, SkyUp, decided to say goodbye to the traditional heels and skirts, and will adapt the uniforms of their hostesses to the new times with a comfortable outfit that will include loose pants and slippers, in a bid to foster an inclusive and comfortable work environment.

However, SkyUp is not the first airline to embrace this trend of attire for their female crew. Low-cost Icelandic Airline, Play, made the change a month ago.

The new uniform, according to aviation site, Transponder 1200, was dubbed ‘SkyUp Champions’, and was designed by the Ukrainian brand, GUDU.

The uniform consists of loose pants and a blazer in the airline’s signature colour: orange. The traditional black shoes with heels have been ditched for comfortable white sneakers. The attendants will also don a light raincoat and a silk scarf in shades of blue.

In a post on its social media accounts, the airline said, “The time for change has come. Professional flight attendants first appeared almost 100 years ago. During this period, many things have changed and, most importantly, women have changed… (This) requires a new vision of the profession and revolutionary changes. Now we are initiating these changes. The fashion consultancy agency (Frame Fashion Consultancy) carried out a complete investigation on us: studied historical excursion, conducted interviews with flight attendants. And as a result, together we developed the concept in a new way – SkyUp Champions.”

According to a source at GUDU, the uniform “reflects the spirit of modernity and is based on the idea of movement. The new shape is created for active, brave, brilliant; those who do not like to wait unnecessarily, but appreciate the style; react quickly, act wisely, take challenges and find a way out of any situation. This is the clothes to be open to the new, those who love to travel and life. We have created a comfortable and elegant pantsuit with a dynamic silhouette. And he complemented the image with a light trench coat made of Italian leather. Comfortable ergonomic NikeAir sneakers have come to change shoes, in which you literally ‘want to fly’.”

According to sources, the new uniform also includes hair and makeup. Instead of the traditional tight bun, hostesses will now be able to let their hair down, and a minimal, natural, no-make look is still preferred. If they choose, the flight attendants are also free to experiment with eyeshadow looks in shades of orange and sunset blue—the airline’s signature colours.
