Burberry Launches Rental And Resale Platform

British heritage brand Burberry has made its first circular fashion move with the launch of its first womenswear rental and resale offering in partnership with rental platform My Wardrobe HQ. The pieces on offer will be available in the UK to rent for 1, 4, 7, 10 or 14 day periods, starting at £22 per day. These pieces are also available to buy at reduced prices. Burberry’s rent and re-sale edit, which is available online on My Wardrobe HQ’s website. Includes some iconic pieces from the brand including trench coats, the Olympia bag, point-toe pumps, scarves and other pieces featuring the classic House check.

Burberry has been one of the brands facing criticism from climate activists for a while for burning old stock. Given the luxury brand’s history, its new foray into the circular fashion space is a positive sign towards ethical and conscious management of fashion waste.

Additionally, about 40 per cent of each transaction will go to the UK-based charity Smart Works, which works to support unemployed women in need by providing interview clothes and clothing. The brand has been working with the charity since 2013 by donating products to be used by the organisation.

In a statement about the new initiative, VP of corporate responsibility at Burberry, Pam Batty said, "Supporting the principles of a more circular economy is key in achieving our ambition to be Climate Positive by 2040. We are delighted to partner with My Wardrobe HQ to offer our communities a new way to shop sustainably for luxury pieces of the highest quality and craftsmanship, whilst expanding on our existing reuse, repair and recycling initiatives."
