8 Jharkhand Girls Selected for Single Girl Child Fellowship, to Receive 5 Years of Financial Assistance

According to a University Grants Commission (UGC) list, the Savitribai Jyotirao Phule Single Girl Child Fellowship-2022-23 has been awarded to eight girls from Jharkhand, of the 1129 girls chosen from across the country.

A single girl child is eligible for the fellowship for five years, if she is the only child in the family and has no siblings. The fellowship encourages single girl children to further up their education and conduct research under this scheme. A sum of ₹1,000 per month to junior research fellows, and ₹ 35,000 per month will be awarded to senior research fellows. Similarly, differently-abled girls will receive ₹ 35,000 per month, along with hostel accommodations.

Students who take up humanities and social sciences are eligible for ₹ 10,000 per year for other expenses for the next two years, and ₹ 25,000 for the remaining term under this scheme.

On the other hand, science, engineering, and technology students are eligible for ₹ 12,000 per year for two years and ₹ 25,000 for the remaining term. An additional ₹ 3,000 per month will be given to the differently-abled student for reader assistance.
