2000 Stray Dogs In Mumbai To Get Reflective Collars In The Next Few Weeks

To protect stray dogs in Mumbai from accidents at night, an initiative to put reflective collars on 2,000 stray dogs has been launched last week. The initiative is a collaboration between Planet for Plants and Animals, Team Kshitij of Mithibai College and supported by Mumbai North Central District Forum. The collars will serve as a precautionary measure allowing drivers to spot the dogs from a distance. The team has invited citizens and other social organisations to join hands and participate in this drive. PPA intends to extend this drive to other parts of India next year.

The first phase of this drive began last week at areas like Marine Drive, Juhu Beach, Dadar Shivaji Park, Bandra Carter Road, Bandstand, Worli and Palm Beach Road. Volunteers were divided into groups with 100 collars each and asked to prioritise stray dogs near high-speed roads. “The idea of this campaign is to protect our strays from accidents. Reflective collars are very effective as it prevents accidents. We want to implement this campaign pan India through our stray feeder’s network & wish to cover all metropolitan cities,” mentioned Saakshi Teckchandani, PPA founder.
