Easiest Way To Keep Your Microwave Clean & Smelling Good

Easiest Way To Keep Your Microwave Clean & Smelling Good

We don't usually cook big meals in a microwave, but even the simple act of heating something can leave smells, stains and a sticky mess, not to mention the dust that can gather around the outside. For me all it took was a burnt bag of popcorn and re-heating coffee to turn a brand new shiny microwave into a grimy, smelly mess. The secret to keeping a clean microwave is regular maintenance.

What You Need?

You can clean a microwave with the everyday cleaning products you already have in your house:

• All-purpose cleaner

• Baking soda

• Dish soap

• Vinegar (white or apple cider)

• No-scratch sponge or microfiber absorbent cloth

Make sure you do not use bleach because it can deteriorate the plastic interior and damage the appliance in the long run.

Cleaning The Insides Of A Microwave

Step 1 Combine 1 cup water and lemon juice in a microwave-safe bowl. Or, if you have white or apple cider vinegar on hand, combine a few tablespoons and 1 cup water in a microwave-safe bowl.

Step 2 Place the bowl in the microwave and turn it on high power for 8-10 until the mixture boils and the window steams up.

Step 3 Let it cool for 5 minutes before opening the door, then remove the bowl and wipe the inside clean with a sponge.

Step 4 Wash the turntable by hand with soapy water and a non-scratch scrub sponge.

Cleaning Microwave Doors

Step 1 Dampen a sponge or cloth with water mixed with baking soda.

Step 2 Wipe down the edges, both sides and the hinges that seal the oven.

Step 3 Rinse and wipe dry the window with a 50/50 mixture of vinegar and water.

Step 4 For thick grease build-up and splatters, wipe your microwave door with an all-purpose cleaner or a frothy mix of dish soap and water.

Getting Rid Of Bad Odour

Step 1 Clean any leftover residue

Step 2 Air out the oven by leaving the door open

Step 3 Place a bowl of baking soda inside with the door closed to absorb smells.

Step 4 Place an odour-absorbing gel inside until you run it again.

Additional Tips To Keep In Mind

• Apply the cleaner with a cloth or sponge.

• Scrub with a non-scratch pad.

• Do not spray directly on electronic controls panels. Always apply the cleaner to a cloth first, then wipe the controls.
