When designer Coco Chanel introduced the classic little black dress in the 1920s, it was nothing like what women had seen before. Until then, black was seen as a colour of mourning and body squeezing corsets were the only norm. The LBD not only freed women from the claustrophobic nightmares that were corsets but also gave them the opportunity to welcome the classic black hue as a wardrobe staple. Mini Skirts of the 1960’s

Deemed one of the most daring hemlines in fashion, the mini skirt became most popular during the 1960’s. Around the time, women’s rights, and the need for more practical clothing for women, were constant topics of discussion. Designer Mary Quant, known most for her mini designs, famously told the Daily Telegraph, “I didn't think of the mini as sexual but as an instrument of liberation. I wanted to make clothes that you could move in, skirts you could run and dance in, but, of course, wearing clothes like that made you feel and look sexy.”

With more and more women stepping out to work and taking up opportunities that were so far just considered for men, fashion followed too. Sharp suits, blazers and blouses with shoulder pads became more and more popular because they gave a sense of power and confidence to women as they continued breaking the glass ceiling during this era.
