Eco-Friendly Idols: Where Devotion Meets Sustainability
Driven by a passion for environmentally conscious living, founder Mana Shah created Green Practices to make greener, planet-friendly choices a practical part of everyday life and treasured traditions. Her eco-friendly Ganesha Idols are made from natural clay that dissolves in just 45 minutes and are painted with watercolours that are 100 per cent safe for marine life.
The choice matters: when Plaster of Paris (PoP) idols are immersed, they can increase heavy metals and dissolved solids in the water, raise acidity and reduce dissolved oxygen, creating an environment that can be harmful to aquatic life. PoP’s reaction with water is also exothermic, releasing heat that can further affect marine ecosystems.
Green Practices offers a gentler alternative, an idol that celebrates Bappa with all the colour, devotion and joy of the festival, while returning naturally to the water.
This Ganesh Chaturthi, choosing clay is a simple yet meaningful way to celebrate and seek the blessings of Lord Ganesha.
