According to government figures, up to 83 per cent of the recipients of Maharashtra’s ‘Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana’ are married women. This initiative provides women between 21 to 65 years with a monthly financial aid of ₹1500. These women could be married, divorced, widowed, abandoned, or destitute, as long as their family income is less than ₹2,50,000 annually.

A single woman per family is also eligible for the bonus. Approximately 2.5 crore people have benefited from the program so far, but the government is currently conducting an examination to exclude those who are not eligible. According to the data, married women make up 83 per cent of the beneficiaries, while single women make up 11.8 per cent.
Widows comprise 4.7 per cent of the beneficiaries, but 'divorced, destitute or deserted' women totally comprise less than 1 per cent of the cohort. Of the recipients, 0.3 per cent are divorced, 0.2 per cent are deserted, and 0.1 per cent are poor. The 30-39 age group accounts for the largest percentage of recipients (29 per cent) followed by the 21-29 age group (25.5 per cent) and the 40-49 age group (23.6 per cent). Women between the ages of 60 and 65 make up barely 5 per cent of the beneficiaries.
The districts with the most applications for the program are Pune, Nashik, and Ahmednagar. However, the districts of Sindhudurg and Gadchiroli have received the least number of applications. Women who own four-wheelers, are employed with the government, or currently receive benefits from other programs that surpass ₹1,500 are not eligible.
