Indian women in Ireland have achieved a significant milestone by becoming the highest median weekly earners among all nationalities in the country. This data, recently released by the Irish Central Statistics Office, revealed that in 2022 Indian women earned a median weekly income of Euro 886.93, surpassing the combined median of all nationalities, both male and female, residing in Ireland, which stood at Euro 670.90.
Comparatively, Indian women earned 45 per cent more than Irish female citizens (Euro 611.60) and nearly 50 per cent more than the overall median weekly earnings for females (Euro 592.92) in Ireland. It's noteworthy that they also earned 4 per cent more than Indian males (Euro 852.98). This stands out as an exceptional case, as median earnings for males were higher than females across all other nationality groups except for Indian nationals.
Overall, Indian nationals took the lead in Ireland with Euro 873.38, followed by UK nationals at Euro 710.32 (with Euro 820.24 among males and Euro 582.34 among females).
Akhilesh Mishra, the Ambassador of India to Ireland, lauded the exceptional performance of Indian women in Ireland, attributing it to the evolving aspirations within India. He highlighted the unique nature of the Indian diaspora in Ireland, primarily comprising first-generation, young, and highly skilled professionals. Mishra emphasised their deep connection and alignment with women-led and inclusive economic development.
This achievement not only signifies the success of individual Indian women, but also underscores the broader narrative of women's empowerment and the positive impact of inclusive economic policies. It is testament to the value of providing equal opportunities and fostering environments that enable women to excel and contribute significantly to society and the economy.
