An Indian contingent of 655 athletes will compete in the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou, People’s Republic of China. The 19th edition of the continental multisport event kicked underway on September 23 and will end on October 8. The continuing quadrennial meet was initially slated for 2022, however it was pushed back a year owing to COVID-19. India won 30 medals at the Asian Games 2023, including eight gold, 11 silver, and 11 bronze.
On Friday, Vikash Singh and Priyanka came fifth and sixth in the men’s and women’s 20km race walk, respectively, at the ongoing Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou. Meanwhile, the Indian shooting team of Palak, Esha Singh, and Divya Thadigol won silver in the women’s 10m air pistol team event. Palak and Esha both won gold and silver in the women’s 10 air pistol final. Aishwary Pratap Singh Tomar, Swapnil Suresh Kusale, and Akhil Sheoran from India also won gold in the men’s 50m air rifle 3P team event. Meanwhile, tennis talents Saketh Myneni and Ramkumar Ramanathan take silver in their men’s doubles final.
While India’s 10m pistol shooters scored a gold medal to add to the 12 medals they had won in the first four days of Hangzhou 2023, Roshibina Devi Naorem won a silver medal in the women’s 60kg sanda event in wushu. Anush Agarwalla, an equestrian rider, won bronze in the individual event, just two days after winning gold with the Indian dressage team. The Indian men’s football team lost 0-2 to Saudi Arabia in the Round of 16, while the Indian men’s hockey team defeated Japan 4-2. India had 25 medals from six sports as of Thursday.
